What is it?
A focus wall highlights the math strategies and skills that the class is working on.

Why is it important?

A focus wall is a dedicated anchor chart to focus on the math strategies presented in a unit or topic.

What to include?
  • Essential Question for Topic
  • Vocabulary
  • I Can Statements
  • Mathematical Practices

I Can Statements
“I Can” standards are the common core standards presented in a kid friendly format. Use these to help students and parents understand the common core standards. (Great to help teachers understand too!) They are presented as a checklist to help students self-assess their progress. Also makes it clear to parents what skills may need extra home support.

Math Vocabulary Cards
In addition to the vocabulary cards that are in Printable Resources online, these cards add a visual and definition to the grade level math vocabulary.
